Nizels Golf and Country Club

Super Seniors League

The Kent Super seniors League has been established to give players over the age of 70 the opportunity to play competitive golf with and against their peers. There are 7 groups in the League. (Groups A to G). Each group is contained into localised areas so that extensive travel is not required.

Nizels is an active member of Group E with Shooters Hill, Dartford, and Birchwood Park. Although it’s the smallest Group in the League, each match is keenly contested and there remains good, healthy, friendly rivalry, between the Clubs. Each year we canvas clubs who do not participate in the League looking for additions to Group E, but to date we have not been successful.

Matches are played on a home and away basis. Each team consists of 5 pairs played in the 4BBB Matchplay format. Points are awarded for each match, 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. A maximum of 10 points available for each match. It’s a first past the posts competition so each match played is vital in determining the eventual League winner. The maximum Handicap Index allowed for any player is 24. Players with a HCI Greater than 24 are still allowed to play but are restricted to the maximum allowable. A light lunch before play is included in the day’s proceedings.

Teams are selected by the Captain on the basis of ability, current form, contributions towards the SAVS Section and a willingness be part of the team.

At the end of each League season, each of the Clubs rotate in hosting a Jamboree for the Group. This is played as an aggregate better ball stableford event. 5 teams from each club, with their individual team scores aggregated to get the Total Team score.  Lunch is included and it’s a fine way to end the Season.

The team also contests in the Kent Super Seniors “Crates Cup” knockout competition each year. The knockout competition quite different from the regular league. Matches are played on a home and away basis. The aggregate number of games won for each match determines which team proceeds in the competition. Teams consist of 3 pairs only.

Nizels last won the regular league in 2019 (it was a much larger league then and included Langley Park and Cherry Lodge). In that year we went on to win the County Championship as well.

The County Championship comprises the winners of each group (A to G) getting together on the same day and competing in a format similar to the Jamboree format above.
