Nizels SAVS – Participation in the Kent Veterans Golf League (KGVL)

The KGVL provides an opportunity for those over 60 to play competitive League golf.

We are currently in Division 7/3, which is the result of a merger of Divisions 3 and 7 in 2023, to provide promotion and relegation.

Division 7/3 also includes Poult Wood, Redlibbets, The Darenth, Pedham Place, The Ridge, and Wrotham Heath.

We have a mixed record of 3 Championship wins, 3 Runners Up spots and 1 relegation in the last 7 years that the KGVL fixtures have been played (around the pandemic years).

Each team is played on a home and away basis between April and September, with teams consisting of 10 players/5 pairs playing 4BBB matches. The season ends with a Jamboree whereby all teams participate in a Pairs Better Ball Stableford competition.

Matches are played on various days to suit the home team with most matches being played in the morning.

Currently in Division 7/3 the maximum handicap Index is 22 with 2 players at a maximum of 24. In Division 3/7 the maximum handicap index is 18 with 2 players at a maximum of 20.

All players are expected to participate in the SAVS competitions on a regular basis. Team selection is based upon form in the SAVS section and prior KGVL matches, finding pairs that play well together, and past track record for away matches in particular.

All matches include a meal (usually after the match) at a cost of circa £15, but no green fees are paid for away matches.

In addition, we participate in the Kent Veteran’s Club Championship, which is a knock out competition consisting of 6 players/3 pairs playing 4BBB matches, and have a proud record of having won the competition 3 times in the last 8 years.
